SpeedPpuccin

A high-performance clone of the AnuPpuccin theme by AnubisNekhet, optimized for speed.

SpeedPpuccin is a maintained fork of FastPpuccin by LostViking09, updated for current Obsidian releases.

About

SpeedPpuccin is a streamlined version of the popular AnuPpuccin theme, designed with performance in mind. It maintains the beautiful aesthetics of the original while removing most features and configurations to achieve maximum speed.

In my testing, performance is comparable to using the default theme.

This theme supports AnuPpuccin Themes Extended (mirror).

But why?

Like probably most of you reading this, I love Obsidian and spend a lot of time tinkering with it (arguably to the detriment of actual work). For big vaults and complex notes, it can become so slow that even typing is delayed.

I found this fork and, upon realizing it hasn't been maintained, decided to fork it myself and make it current with the latest Obsidian releases. I've tried to also make it compatible with legacy snippets from the original and the fork, though I can't always guarantee I've done so as that would require extensive testing.

Bug reports, feature suggestions, and PR's are welcome, but keep in mind that I probably won't add features that increase complexity and might hinder performance.

Settings

The theme includes essential settings for customization:

  • Light/Dark theme flavor selection (added Gruvbox as a style settings option in 1.1.0, including its own accent as Gruvbox green, which is visible when "Enable accent handling" is on)
  • File name title color options (Normal, Muted, Accent, H1)
  • Toggle options for:
    • Force theme accents
    • Custom checkboxes
    • File icons
    • Colored headings
    • File extension label alignment
    • Safari tabs
    • External link icons
    • Table hover transition

Credits

  • Original AnuPpuccin theme by AnubisNekhet. Almost all code is lifted from AnuPpuccin, with some minor bug fixes and some hard-coded variables that are required for SpeedPpuccin.

Responsible use of AI

  • Claude Opus was used in helping make sweeping changes for the initial fork, but only to the extent it was instructed to by me. Every change was manually reviewed, and I try to stay on top of any changes that might be needed as Obsidian updates its documentation. Future updates will include some combination of AI-assisted and manual programming.
