Open in Typora

Open a Markdown file in Typora directly from Obsidian's file context menu or command palette.

macOS only. Requires Obsidian 1.13.7 or newer and an installed copy of Typora.

Usage

  • Right-click a .md file and choose Typora로 보기 (Open in Typora).
  • Alternatively, run Open in Typora: 현재 Markdown 파일을 Typora로 보기 from the command palette.
  • Folders and files with other extensions do not receive the menu item.

The current menu and command labels are in Korean. The plugin opens the original file; edits saved in Typora are reflected in Obsidian. Obsidian-specific features such as wikilinks, embeds, and plugin syntax may render differently in Typora.

Installation

Manual installation

  1. Download main.js and manifest.json from the latest GitHub release.
  2. Create <vault>/.obsidian/plugins/open-in-typora/ and copy both files into it.
  3. Refresh the installed plugins list in Settings → Community plugins, then enable Open in Typora.

BRAT

Add leessju/obsidian-open-in-typora through BRAT.

Community directory availability depends on acceptance of the submission.

Privacy and permissions

The plugin does not make network requests, collect telemetry, or modify notes. It invokes macOS /usr/bin/open -a Typora with the absolute file path as a separate argument. It requires a local filesystem vault. Windows, Linux, and mobile platforms are not supported.

Development and validation

There are no external packages or build steps. The root main.js is both the source and release artifact.

Tests cover Markdown-only menus, uppercase extensions, argument handling for Korean filenames and shell metacharacters, command availability, launch errors, and unsupported platforms/adapters. The plugin has also been tested in Obsidian 1.13.7 on macOS by opening a Markdown file from the context menu in Typora.
