Comic Scripter

Maintained by Victoria Douglas

A simple comic scripting utility. Based on Scrivener templating or comic scripting suites like Superscript. Comic Scripter will style Pages, Panels, and Dialogue with Markdown-adjacent syntax so that your script stays easy to read from a distance.

Automatic Page Numbering

If you start a new line by typing "Page" or a capital "P", and that's all that is on the line (by hitting enter afterwards), then it will mark it as a Page of your comic, and collate all the Pages in the document, then number them starting at 1. Copying a page and moving it will reflow the numbering as well.

Automatic Panel Numbering

If you start a new page by typing "Panel" or a lowercase "p", similar to the Page numbering, it will insert a panel and indent the heading. Then it will number all panels sequentially until it hits the next page.

Dialogue Styling

If a line includes a name and then a colon, it will style the line as dialogue. It will bold and indent the name, and keep the following text unstyled as the actual dialogue. You can keep dialogue on the same line as the Character's name, or put it on a new line underneath. Also works with Captions, SFX, or other attributed descriptions.

Settings

Page Separation

Toggle Page Separation on in settings to include a separating line between pages. On by default.

Page Handedness

Toggle on Page Handedness to append an "L" or an "R" to each Page, starting with Page one being on the Right.

Flipping Handedness

Use the Flip Handedness toggle if you are making manga that traditionally starts with Page One on the Left, or otherwise want to flip the Default Handedness.

Overwriting Handedness

If you want to overwrite the handedness for a single script, add the front matter property "Page Start", and set it to "Right", "R", "Left", "L" or "None" to override the setting on a per script basis.

Documentation

There isn't any. I'll update this if I put a page on my site dedicated to it.
