Changelog

Academic Editor Ultra 1.0.0

Write beside the printed page. Word and Markdown now share a guided manuscript editor; Markdown changes return to the connected note.

What changed

  • Guided title, abstract, authors, correspondence, publication details, statements and running heads. Click the proof to reach the matching field. Full YAML remains available as an advanced view.
  • Automatic saving after 500 ms; manual Refresh preview by default. Optional automatic preview waits for two seconds of inactivity. Source conflicts preserve both edits; failed composition cannot export an old PDF as current.
  • Instant template switching. Three public presets and three portable template ZIPs: Academic Editor Ultra, Journal of Achmage, Journal of Command & Space. Private journal profiles remain in the user's library and are excluded from the public package.
  • Figures and tables snap to Left column / Right column / Full width. Drag vertically, scroll at the edges, move between pages and undo the placement. A completed move triggers one composition. Captions remain attached to their object.
  • Review PDFs allow editorial warnings. Final PDFs collect remaining warnings and offer an explicit override, recorded separately from review approval. Empty optional information and labels are omitted; missing artwork remains a warning.
  • Korean UI when Obsidian uses Korean; English for other languages. Manuscript text is never translated.
  • Native AF packages retain original PDF artwork separately from display previews, with asset hashes. Body frames remain linked through successive columns and pages. Affinity edits do not synchronize back to Markdown.

Verification

Check Result
TypeScript, production build, lint Passed
Automated tests 138 passed
Bundle, Community policy, release consistency Passed
Dependency audit, production and complete tree 0 reported vulnerabilities on 2026-09-18
Isolated Obsidian editor Markdown writeback, external conflict, undo, invalid YAML, stale-export prevention, template rollback and real DOCX import/reopen passed
Placement in Obsidian No selection jump, edge scrolling, cancellation, page change, single composition, undo/redo and full-width control passed
CMDS Eagle 1.8.4 Actual paste handler with a mock upload endpoint; one upload, remote figure movement and placement persistence passed
UI languages Korean and English inspected; Japanese Obsidian displayed English plugin controls
Native Affinity Open, Save As, reopen and PDF export checked. Test document retained 24 frames, 15 stories and a seven-frame longest flow; both placed PDF logo hashes survived saving

The functional editor and placement runs completed without page errors. Some screenshot-only runs recorded intermittent Obsidian illegal access startup events without a JavaScript stack; the captures and exports completed. These are retained in the private validation logs, not counted as a clean run. Windows was tested directly; macOS and Linux hardware were not tested for this release.

Affinity has its own text engine: inspect final line breaks and the last linked frame. Missing fonts require installation or substitution. Public presets are demonstration identities, not actual research journals or institutional endorsements.

Package size

main.js: 18,235,119 bytes (18.24 MB / 17.39 MiB). Installation ZIP: 12,107,177 bytes (12.11 MB). Compared with the 0.2.0 candidate, the main bundle is 55,504 bytes smaller. CodeMirror core is provided by Obsidian; compiler and OCR resources remain offline.

The offline bundle exceeds Obsidian Sync Standard's 5 MB file limit. Install the plugin on each desktop directly if that plan cannot synchronize it.

Install and use

Extract the three plugin files into .obsidian/plugins/achmage-academic-editor-ultra/, then reload the plugin. Existing settings and projects are retained. Open Sample manuscript, edit the guided fields and choose Refresh preview.

For a portable preset, choose Template library → Import template ZIP. A preset includes its logo assets; fonts are discovered on the computer. The five gallery images show 1.0.0. The linked 90-second videos demonstrate 0.1.1.

Community directory review and GitHub release publication are separate statuses. A release does not imply that Community review has been approved.

Achmage Academic Editor Ultra

Your words. A journal.

Write in Markdown. Compose a journal. Keep the last edit yours.

One Markdown manuscript, two custom journals

한국어 · Download 1.0.0 · Working samples · 90-second demo

An Obsidian plugin for researchers and editors who want a carefully composed paper without rebuilding every page by hand. Start with a Markdown note or an author's Word manuscript. Create a PDF, then export an editable Affinity document when the final adjustment belongs in a design application.

The guide is a manuscript you can try

1.0.0: edit Word and Markdown beside the proof. Click a printed field to edit it, switch templates instantly, and keep figures aligned to a column or the full page width. Saving is automatic; Refresh preview puts composition under your control. Changes and verification.

Watch in English · 한국어 영상. The 90-second films show 0.1.1; the screenshots show 1.0.0.

Choose Open sample manuscript. Its working guide has an abstract, correspondence, figures, tables, notes and closing statements. Change its title in the manuscript panel and choose Refresh preview. The page follows your words.

English and Korean samples are included offline. Opening the guide again preserves your edits; Create a fresh copy starts another experiment.

English manuscript · 한국어 원고 · Navy PDF · Command & Space PDF · Editable AF example

Write where you think

Actual Markdown editing in Obsidian

Use headings, paragraphs, emphasis, lists, image links and Markdown tables. YAML properties give recurring information a home: the abstract, authors, correspondence, dates, running heads and statements before the references. Local images, Obsidian embeds and HTTPS image links are supported.

Markdown remains the source. The journal project holds appearance, placement and review decisions. Author DOCX files use an editable import-and-review workflow instead.

Same paper. Your journal.

Two journal identities applied to the same source

Three public presets are included: Academic Editor Ultra, Journal of Achmage and Journal of Command & Space. Each also ships as a self-contained template ZIP; import or export it from Template library. Private journal presets belong to your local library.

Choose Journal of Achmage for deep navy, or Journal of Command & Space for teal and pink. Both include vector PDF logos. Duplicate a preset and use a short wizard to change logos, colors, fonts, running heads and publication text. The established composition rules stay consistent.

These are demonstration identities, not published research journals or university endorsements. Artwork credits.

Let the page take shape

Figures, tables and notes in the generated sample

Two columns, heading hierarchy, figure-caption placement, table width, repeated headers and notes are handled by the composition engine. APA-oriented checks and optional Crossref lookups bring uncertain details into review. Missing facts still need an editor's judgment.

Keep the final touch within reach

The exported sample opened in Affinity with page objects and a master spread

PDF is the composed result. AF and IDML let you continue in a design tool. Supported AF output includes connected body text frames, separate objects, vector PDF artwork, facing pages, masters and page-number fields.

Affinity uses its own text engine: check line breaks and the final linked frame after editing. Unsupported export cases are reported. Changes in Affinity do not synchronize back to Markdown. The sample demonstrates supported features; it is not a promise of universal compatibility.

Install

1.0.0 is independent of HanMark. Community directory review is separate from the GitHub release; use the release ZIP while the listing is being reviewed.

  1. Download achmage-academic-editor-ultra-1.0.0.zip from Releases.
  2. Extract its three files into <vault>/.obsidian/plugins/achmage-academic-editor-ultra/.
  3. Reload Obsidian, enable Achmage Academic Editor Ultra, then choose Open sample manuscript.

Requires Obsidian 1.8.9+. Desktop is required for native AF export. Installed fonts are discovered on Windows, macOS and Linux; missing fonts can be substituted. Commercial fonts are not bundled. macOS CI is retained; macOS hardware was not tested for this release.

Local by design

Composition and APA checks run locally without an AI service or AI tokens. Crossref queries and remote image retrieval use the internet. Remote images are stored as project snapshots; refreshing them is explicit. Optional sample and video downloads are separate from the plugin.
